Meet Doug Saltzman

Audio Engineer Turned Marketing Strategist

Doug Saltzman learned marketing the long way around, starting behind a mixing console.

Before he ran a single campaign, he spent years in recording studios, where every decision comes down to one question… what does the listener actually hear?

That question still drives every engagement at And Zeros.

Doug founded And Zeros in 2024 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on a simple idea:

Clients should work with the person doing the thinking.

No account managers stand between Doug and the work. He leads strategy on every client account, and a small senior team builds everything from brand identity to AI search visibility.

Progress

From the Studio to Search

Doug's first career was in audio engineering, with credits including Mos Def, Gia Margaret, Denmark Vessey, Netflix, Hulu, and more.

Studio work trains your ear to separate signal from noise. It also teaches you that most problems are small. A phase issue. Two frequencies fighting for the same space. A detail nobody else caught.

That ear carried straight into marketing.

He led go-to-market for a music tech startup through its acquisition by Etsy, then served as Director of Marketing at LewAllen Galleries, a leading art gallery in the United States.

Then he bet on himself.

Doug rebuilt And Zeros from a one-person shop into a full-force agency in under 2 years.

What And Zeros Does

About

Author of The Zero Crossing

In audio, the zero crossing is the point where a waveform passes through silence. Cut there and the edit stays clean.

The Zero Crossing is Doug's newsletter on brand strategy, platform mechanics, and attention. It borrows the language of sound engineering to explain why some brands cut through and most get lost in the mix.

Doug also builds the tools And Zeros uses. Semantic Spy scores web pages against six signals that shape whether AI search engines cite them as a source.

Outside of Work?

Doug still makes music and takes photographs under the name dug. (lowercase, period included). His creative work lives at dougsaltzman.com
